Hi family…

It’s hard to know where to start. I guess first let me say thanks for being here. Your support means everything to me. Which is why I’m going to try to be as vulnerable as possible.

So many times, I’ve wanted to write a blog, but I’ve never felt confident enough to really put my heart out there to be dissected. Lately, I’ve been noticing that the lioness inside of me wants to find her pride, and I know to do that I have to make myself heard… I must roar.

So… let’s see how this goes.

As a creative, there is always something that I’m working on to keep my soul fed. I’ve found that more recently I have had to find imaginative ways just to survive. My art for the love of it took a backseat to that survival and I was forced to use whatever resources I had to simply keep going.

I learned so much in that process. I learned that creativity is more than a tool, it’s a way of life. It is, in its purest form, an existence. And when life was handing me lemons, making lemonade didn’t work. I had to be… creative.

I feel that that type of creativity is what leads to the most innovation. More often than not, women thrive when it comes to innovation born out of survival. I could name famous or noteworthy women who’ve contributed greatly in this regard OR I could share the stories of the women close to us. Our neighbors and friends. Our grocery store clerks and waitresses. The women who we see walking down the street with their double stroller trying their best to feel like they’re not drowning. The ones who notice us and compliment our shoes or hair and even the ones with RBF that just don’t have the capacity to be nice at that moment.

I’m lucky enough to know so many of these beautiful women and I also know that every single one of them has experienced something transformative in their lives that makes them who they are. And although some of us are still just surviving, others have reached the level of creatively thriving.

I want to share stories of pain that innovated passion. And heartbreak that paved the way to enlightenment. I know I’ve been there. And in time I will share my story as well. But for now, I want to highlight the women who breathe life into our communities to help us realize we are more alike than we think and each and every one of us holds the power to forge our own new beginning. Even when we feel the most broken, we can pick up our pieces and create something new. We are magic.

Being able to use photography as my medium for this project is such a gift. It allows me to capture more than words, but also the essence of my subjects. I’m beyond excited and feel so honored to get to collaborate with so many of you. Please stay tuned in and reach out if you want to be a part of this beautiful journey.

Yours truly, May
